This image was created by mapping one of NASA's Earth Lights Blue Marble images onto a sphere. The perspective is from a vantage point about 1000 miles high over the Pacific Ocean. Right-click on this link USlightsScreenBackgrounds.zip (file size: 4.8 megabytes) and:

If using Internet Explorer, select "Save Target As"
If using Netscape 6 or 7, select "Save Link Target As..."
If using Firefox, select "Save Link As..."

to download this zip file to your computer. Unzip the four BMP format images to your Windows directory and select the appropriate one, depending on your screen resolution, to use as the background for your Windows desktop. Enjoy!
